Week 1: On the first day, campers will get to know one another, learn the schedule for the day and discuss safety protocols as well as the overall expectations of camp. Campers will begin the fashion design process by learning about inspiration, gathering their ideas and finding their own individuality, which will become the foundation of their collection’s concept. In finding inspiration, campers will learn to create mood and vision boards to help communicate their ideas. There will also be exercises in understanding silhouettes, proportions and different types of fabrics to help campers continue to bring their visions to life.
Once inspiration has been defined, campers will learn proper fashion drawing techniques using croquis and understand different fashion terminology. During this section, campers will produce renderings of their collection. By the end of the week, once conceptualizing and sketching wrap up and designs are approved, campers will make a shopping list to prepare for their shopping on Friday.
Week 2: Once all materials have been acquired, campers will begin to construct their garments. Campers will either learn or have a refresher lesson on how to use a sewing machine. They will also start prepping their pattern and fabric. This course will include exercises on reading patterns, altering them and cutting and sewing fabrics. Once the prepping has been wrapped up, many campers will begin moving at a different pace. But no worries—our counselors will be working with each camper individually to help them while they begin to sew their garments together. The rest of the week is dedicated to sewing garments together.
Week 3: Continues to be all about sewing! Campers will continue their sewing and fittings and make any additional alterations. While working on their garments, campers will begin planning for the big finale, the fashion show, at the end of the week! Friday is all about the final touches, refining their boards, preparing for their fashion show, then it’s showtime. Campers will walk the runway in their designs, showing off their extraordinary accomplishments!
