Create Memories & Get to Relax - A win-win
At The Handwork Studio, we’re all about the kids. As a mom, you’re all about the kids. This means most of our conversations are about, well, the kids! After all, they’re central to our mission, and they’re the center of your world. With Mother’s Day fast approaching, we want to let all of our handwork moms know we see you. We see you, we think you’re incredible, and a great mom (cool mom alert!)
As a parent, you spend a lot of time in your children’s world focussed on their interests. So, this Mother’s Day, why not invite them to join you? We have put together a curriculum guaranteed to get the whole family to put down the screen and discover new skills while giving mom rest, relaxation, and pampering.
Emoji Sleep Eye Mask.
Everyone loves an eye mask. It blocks out excess light, and, let’s be honest; it makes it easier to pretend to be asleep when your kids wander into your room in the middle of the night. In addition, this eye mask is extra-kid-friendly, as the design includes emojis.
This craft begins with a brief history lesson on emojis (spoiler alert, they were invented earlier than you’d expect) and gives you and your child ample opportunity to bond. Spend time learning about each other and expressing yourselves, as you pick your favorite emoji and explain why you chose it. Then work together as you practice cutting, sewing, and measuring each other’s heads!
We have found that this craft makes bedtime routines exciting, as your little one (or not-so-little one) eagerly runs to bed to try out their new sleep mask. Okay, maybe they won’t run to bed, but you won’t have to drag them there!

Hairband
This craft does not involve bringing your kids to a Guns N Roses concert. (Although, if you have that opportunity, go for it!) Hair and playtime don’t always work well together. Hairbands are a quick and adorable way to tidy up the hair of the even wiggliest of toddlers and busiest of moms. We absolutely love this craft because it is so practical, and you can use items that you already have and no longer need: old t-shirts!
You and your child can each pick out your favorite old t-shirt design and watch a beautiful hairband come to life through a series of knots (which we teach you how to do) and some light sewing or hot glue work. Depending on the size of the t-shirt, you can even make matching ones, wear them in public and proudly tell everyone you encounter that you and your child are cut from the same cloth.
Beyond the ease of this craft and custom design, we cannot underemphasize how great it feels to wear a hairband tailored for your head. If you have gone through a hairband phase (and who hasn’t), you know the disappointment of putting on a brand new hairband that you adore only to have a headache fifteen minutes later when you finally admit it’s too small. You and your kids look great and feel great with homemade hair bands, knowing that these hair bands were sewn (or glued) together with love.

Face Mask: Aloe & Green Tea
If you step outside your door and listen, you will hear summer coming just around the corner. This means long days in the sun and, of course, CAMP! May is the perfect month to teach your child how to love and care for their skin. Begin the conversation through a fun and holistic craft as you make an aloe and green tea mask.
You and your child will mix a few natural ingredients together in a jar in this craft. Next, you can teach your child how to introduce a new skin product safely with a patch test. Then, share how joyful it can be to take care of yourself! You can cater the conversation toward your child’s age, but the essence is the same: self-care is beautiful!
We have also found that things like sunscreen application, hydration, and healthy eating become a lot easier when we team up to protect our bodies.
Create memories this Mother’s Day while developing skills that will last time. Watch your children and yourself buzz from the confidence and inspiration one feels after completing a handwork project. From all of us at The Handwork Studio, Happy Mother’s Day! Moms like you are the reason we get to do what we love every day, and the delightful kids you’re raising are why we enjoy it so much. This Mother’s Day, take time to do the things you love with the people you love. Be sure to celebrate one of the most influential people of all: YOU!
As always, we love to hear from you! Let us know what you loved from these handwork projects and what you would love to see included in our next shared curriculum.
