How skills learned at summer camp can be applied during the school year

It is important to not lose the skills learned at summer camp during the school year. Similar to how students are required to do summer work so that they do not forget their math or reading skills, it is also important to keep practicing summer camp skills during the school year. The easiest way to do this is to incorporate it into your weekly activities. Use these tips to continue practicing all of your skills from summer!

Take a break from homework and go outside to practice sports:

Whether your camper attended a sports camp where they got an introduction to many different sports or it was specialty one where they really developed their skills, encourage them to get outside and practice after school. Taking a break from homework, especially when it is getting overwhelming, is the perfect time to get some fresh air and practice the new techniques you learned at sports camp. Not only will the fresh air have you feeling refreshed when you go back inside, but you will have the chance to practice the skills you learned at summer camp. As they say, practice makes perfect. By continually practicing anything, you will only get better at it.

Practice handwork and art skills by decorating your school supplies:

Lets be honest, most notebooks and binders students have to get for school are pretty boring and you can bet that at least one other student has the same one. A great way to make your school supplies unique while also practicing art skills is to decorate them! You can decorate your notebooks or binders with puffy paint or stamps, creating fun designs so that it is easily recognizable. Decorate your backpack or pencil case by sewing on patchwork or sewing on fun designs. This is a sure way to liven up the school day. Practicing these skills from art camp will allow you to become even better at them and make your school supplies stand out.

Enroll in after school classes:

Why should camp only be for the summer? Year round camps are a great way to continue practicing the skills you learned at summer camp during the school year. By working with knowledgeable instructors, students will be able to really hone the skills they learned during summer camp. It is also a great way to stay in contact with friends met at summer camp. Like year round art camps, a great way for those who attended sports camp to continue to develop their skills, is to sign them up for an intermural year round team. They will get to practice every week and make new friends.
