This summer will mark our third year partnering with Sidwell Friends School and we are thrilled to be continuing this great camp tradition.

The Sidwell Friends School, located in Washington D.C. (as well as a campus in Bethesda, Maryland), was founded as a coeducational Quaker institution in 1883 by Thomas Watson Sidwell. Though its student body only began with a mere 18 attendees, the school now boasts a student community of 1,118 and has expanded from its beginnings in the Friends Meeting House on I Street to a more suburban and expansive location on Wisconsin Avenue. (Pictured above is the first school building on the Wisconsin Avenue campus - a beautiful Dutch colonial which orignally served at Thomas Sidwell's home.) In 1934, Thomas Sidwell moved to make the school a non-profit institution governed by a Board of Trustees. This status still remains today. The Sidwell School's philosophy reflects Quaker values of uniqueness and good in every individual. Students are encouraged to study a variety of academic disciplines, regardless of background, and with the cultivation of a strong enrollment of diplomatic families the Sidwell School truly has a diverse and flourishing student community. The Handwork Studio is proud to partner with this outstanding institution.
