Summer Jobs Opportunities 2010
The Handwork Studio, LLC. is a kids’ needle arts and fashion camp. Our purpose is to pass down the tradition of teaching practical arts such as knitting, crocheting, hand sewing, embroidery, quilting, machine sewing and crafts.
Our headquarters is located in Narberth, PA just 8 miles outside of Philadelphia. In 2010 our camp program will expand to the following locations in Pennsylvania- Narberth, Rosemont, Chestnut Hill, Devon, Newtown Square, Center City Philadelphia- as well as Avalon NJ and Washington DC!
Our Summer Programs
Fiber Crafts Camp
Ages 3-Entering Kindergarten
This project-based camp will introduce your little ones to the exciting world of needle and fiber arts. Campers will improve their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and patience while hand sewing, working with textiles and wools, as well as creating fun crafts projects they are proud to bring home. There will also be handwork stories, snack time, and fun group games.
Handwork Day Camp
Grades K-6th
During this weekly camp program kids spend their time moving between creative activities such as knitting, crocheting, embroidery, machine sewing and crafts. Each week, will complete several finished projects such as a knitted finger puppet, a hand sewn game board or a machine-sewn backpack. They will also have fun crafting with projects like Kool-aid dyed yarns, no sew fleece pillows, felted wool and decorated flip flops.
Machine Sewing Camp
Grades 5-10
In this weekly camp, kids (grades 5-10) will have the choice of several items to sew like pajamas, hoodies, skirts, dresses, quilts, bags etc. Campers will learn pattern reading, how to take measurements and sewing fundamentals.
Fashion Boot Camp
Grades 7-12
During the summer of 2010, we are running (3) 3 week fashion camps for kids in grades 7-11. In this full day program campers will learn to express themselves through fashion design. They will learn to sketch, design, sew and model a collection. Each session will host guest designers, shopping trips and will culminate in a student run fashion show.

Lead Counselor
The lead counselor is responsible for ensuring the overall success of the camp and the welfare of the children. You will also be responsible for interacting with the parents, taking last minute registrations, managing the staff, instructing the children, opening and closing the location, making sure the projects are executed and completed on time and ensuring that the site meets organizational standards on a daily basis. Qualified candidate must be comfortable delegating, love to work with children, be able to manage the day and the projects and be personable with the parents. Appropriate crafting skills such as knitting, crocheting, machine sewing are required.
All Lead Staff is required to attend Handwork University, a 4 day training program held June 3-6, 2010 at Rosemont College in Rosemont Pa and must have the flexibility to work at various locations. Lead Counselors must be at least 21 years of age, must be CPR certified and provide Criminal, Child Abuse and FBI fingerprint clearance or be willing to get all clearances.
Junior Counselor
Summer Assistants are responsible for supporting the lead instructor, organizing and preparing for the day, helping and instructing the campers, playing games, cleaning and organizing the camp site. Qualified candidates must have high energy, enjoy crafting and working with kids, love to be silly and joyous, be neat and organized. Assistants must have appropriate crafting skills such as knitting, crocheting, machine sewing. For our Fashion Boot Camp qualified candidates must have a passion for fashion, a good understanding of garment construction, deconstruction, pattern reading and have the ability to anticipate a student’s needs and jump in and help.
Assistant Counselors need to be a minimum of 16 years of age and must attend a summer training program June 3-6, 2010.
Assistant Counselors must be at least 16 years of age, must be CPR certified and provide Criminal, Child Abuse and FBI fingerprint clearance. Or be willing to get all clearances. The ability to work at various locations is required.
Counselors in Training
Our CIT program offers 14 and 15 year olds the opportunity to have a summer job doing what they love to do- craft and work with younger children! CITs, like our summer assistants are responsible for supporting the lead instructor by organizing and preparing for the day, helping and instructing the campers, playing games, cleaning and organizing the camp site. Qualified candidates must have high energy, enjoy crafting and working with kids, love to be silly and joyous, be neat and organized. CITs must have appropriate crafting skills such as knitting, crocheting, machine sewing.
