Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do I need to be an expert crafter?
A. No, we do not expect everyone to know how to do everything. The basic skills we teach, but not limited to are knitting, crochet, hand and machine sewing, weaving, needle-felting, and fashion design. If you are proficient in on or more than one of these techniques you are an eligible canidate
Q. What do you look for in a counselor?
A. We look for HAPPY people! We want our campers to walk into a warm and loving environment each day. That starts with our staff setting the tone. Canidates MUST possess patience, happiness, passion, and respect.
Q. How many weeks will I work?
A. This all really depends. We are seasonal summer employment. Depending the location, some programs start as early as June 4th and run as late as August 30th. We estimate that most counselor will work between 4-8weeks.
Q. Do I need a car?
A. We expect all lead counselors to have a reliable car.
Q. What will my hours be?
A. Generally your hours will be 8:30-3:30pm, Monday-Friday. However, there will be instances when we will need staff to stay late for a set-up or break-down of a camp location.
Q. Will I be required to do any training?
A. Yes, all staff will participate in training. We have an orientation weekend on June 1st-3rd, approx. 8:30-4:30pm. This is a mandatory training and if you are not able to make we cannot condsider you for the position. This training will take place at Rosemont College in Rosemont, PA. If you will be traveling from out of town The Handwork Studio will provide you with room and board for the duration of the training.
Q. What hours am I expected to work?
A. We are a day camp and our expectations are approximately 35hrs. a week, Monday-Friday, 8:30-3:30pm. This can vary slightly in some of our locations
